What does "encrypting windows partition" mean in Veracrypt?

I am using a test drive with Win 10, it's an ssd-500gb. I ask because it is taking 75 minutes to encrypt. Is it encrypting most of the drive, or just a small partition?

Veracrypt will not allow for whole drive encryption, it defaults to Windows partition only.

I should think from their documentation it is encrypting C:

    Note last sentence in link.

Depending how you have your SSD laid out this could be most of the drive. Some people have a system / program partition and a separate data partition. Or multiple data partitions

There docs say they can encrypt whole drive.

Interesting thing about SSD, because they balance load across cells some cells may have unencrypted data in them. Then you get into secure erase and how they execute secure erase to ensure every cell is erased. You can goggle.

I see it's encrypting a large portion of the drive, 418gb out 465 usable. So what is actually getting encrypted is hard to say.

I see they have a new version out, they claim it will do whole drive encryption and take windows updates now. I am decrypting my test drive, I'll download and test this new version to see what happens.

If you look at disk mgmt you should see how disk is laid out.

Ken, it was encrypting the larger of five partitions, so it must leave the others alone.

    Yes the c: drive.

Not sure what the others are. There are the standard windows recovery, system reserve or efi, the MSR.

    Did veracrypt create one?

I am doing a hard reset on that computer right now. When it's done I'll take a shot of them.
