Has this changed in a recent update? I remember doing this on my last PC and it worked fine, but not so on my new build.

I have secure login disabled, but there is no "Users must enter a user name and password to use this Computer" option anymore. There is no login after a cold boot, but every time I sleep/wake the lock screen still comes up. Which is totally useless to me since I rarely do a full shutdown or reboot.

Hello, and welcome to Ten Forums.

If you turned on Require Windows Hello sign-in for Microsoft accounts (aka: passwordless sign-in), you will not see the Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer check box.

If your PC is currently joined to a domain, then the "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer." box will not be available, and you will need to use OPTION TWO instead.

Thanks! Sorry, I think I posted this in the wrong thread, I had multiple tabs open. Meant to post in the Disable lock screen thread. Auto sign in works after a full boot/reboot, but I cannot disable the lock screen after sleep+wake.

Anyway, I have set up a local account, so I am not using Hello sign in. I am also not on a domain.

You did post this in the disable lock screen tutorial, but your "Users must enter a user name and password to use this Computer" question was not related to that tutorial, so I moved it to the this tutorial where it's related.

Are you wanting to not have to sign in at wakeup?

If so, check using the tutorial below to turn off or disable require sign-on wakeup.

Yes, thanks. The Sign-in settings in Option 1 do not seem to exist any more. I'll go through the other options.

If your local account doesn't have a password, you wouldn't see the "Require sign-in" setting in Settings.

You could either add a password to your account, or use option 4 or 5 to disable.

As I said, my clean install does not display that setting. I have now looked in the registry on both the upgrade to 2004 and the clean install of 2004.

My upgraded machine does not have the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\PasswordLess.

My clean install has the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\PasswordLess\Device key and DevicePasswordLessBuildVersion is set to 2 (which means ON according to the tutorial). Setting it to 0 restores the checkbox in Netplwiz.

So my problem (and @David oap's) is that a) my clean install defaults to 'ON' for that setting, and b) I do not get the switch to turn it off in Accounts > Sign-in options.

It may (or may not) be relevant that we are installing different language edition. Yours would be en-us while mine is en-gb.
I've just clean installed Windows ver 2004 and faced the same issue with the missing tick box in Netplwiz. Had to change the registry value from 2 to 0 to get it back also...

Netplwiz tick box will not be there if this is on. Turn it off.

    Hi all,

I can fully confirmed that the issue showed up on my win10 x64 - 19041.264 (en-us) after clean install as well.

Enable or Disable Passwordless Sign-in for Microsoft Accounts

    By default in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\PasswordLess\Device

DevicePasswordLessBuildVersion key's value was set to 2 and unable to see Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer after running netplwiz or control userpasswords2.

When changed to the key's value to 0, system shows Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer 😊

I am glad this was already brought up already as I noticed this issue as well.
Also on my recent installation... i have made a clean install of Windows 10 Pro x64 on a notebook. I have tryed to set autologin and on "control userpasswords2" i don't have the check to disable the request of password.

After i put DWORD 0 at "DevicePasswordLessBuildVersion" on the registry i reopen "control userpasswords2" and the check it's appears.

Ah.. it's because currently i use a local account ?

Yes, I have a local account and I had to fix the registry to enable an auto login. It's probably just another MS unsubtle push for us to use a Microshaft login.
