Just to close this off - the installation to that partition hadn't completed, which was why it wasn't possible to make it bootable.

When using that tool the partition I want to boot from is not available for selection.

Thanks - but how do I add it to the UEFI boot menu?
(And when I disable UEFI the partition still doesn't appear in any lists to boot from).
