Speaking about Language Pack: Build 10049 does install unexpected things, like a Korea Media Player, and Korea Messenger. But I'll deal with those eventually.

Well, after two tries, Build 10049 is finally installed. It took 9 or 10 hours! (And I found out that isn't unusual; others have reported that weird length of time). But it works ok so far.

Ok. I have copied my VHD Windows 10 installation to a regular partition. Fixed boot with EasyBCD. My new installation loaded with no problem. But it still didn't want to install 10049. Error...

Thanks, all. As far as doing first 10041, I can only go by what Windows Update did. It downloads updates automatically. And the virtual disk holds 50GB; it should be sufficient.
