This is what my start menu looks like, I have pinned several shortcuts to the start list From windows Explorer. They still don't show:

As I said in the first post I'm used to the start screen so the tweak with bat files and registry change is not worth the effort. It's not a dealbreaker.

Just finished installing a VM. Holding shift + left click (or right click) does not give me the "pin to start list" option, only "pin to start". I see it if I do it on something in windows explorer...
Thanks for all your answers. I think it's time I try the preview for myself. Joining the insider program required way less steps than I had imagined. Downloading ISO now.

OK great! How do you do that? The latest demos I've watched they can only choose "pin to start" when they right click and that pins it as a tile. I probably should install the preview as a VM.
