Well, I did find a solution that worked for me as described earlier in this thread but guess you already tried that to no avail since you're asking?

For anyone else with the same question I had how to use/enable the default shares on a Win10 machine I found what you need to do (other than the obvious things like enabling file & print sharing etc)...

Thanks but that's not applicable for default shares since you can't modify the permissions (or at least not in the normal way).
I have two Windows 10 PCs on the same home network and I can't access the default shares on either one of them, I keep getting 'Access denied'.
Any ideas?
