W10 1809 laptops on network can't see others

This is MS's worst cluster in my experience. much worse than screwing with networking in XP or Win95. Unbelieveable that in 2019, there is no easy way to network several laptops with a plain vanilla desktop. Infuriating.

Why should I have to dick around with SMB's and other internal setting just to get a tablet to see the desktop and share a printer?

My desktop is named "HOME-PC". The laptop and tablet show "HOMENETWORK" in file manger/network, in addition to showing themselves. Why "HOMENETWORK"? - seems like an artifact name from years ago. The "HOMENETWORK" file is empty, and how do I get rid of it and get the laptops to see "HOME-PC"?

All are running 1809 17763.379. What an unconscionable friggin' mess. Where is Apple when you need them?

    Agree

    Have a look at this

Share Files and Folders Over a Network in Windows 10

While this is for sharing I usually attach printers directly to the network and either set them as Static IP or I reserve the address in the router. I prefer reserve. This allows devices direct access to printers.

Thank you very much, but its absurd for MS to expect civilians to dig into the bowels of their operating system for such an obvious and simple capability. They're growing really stupid out there.

But thank you for your assistance.

They are all on the default "WORKGROUP".

My Desktop "HOME-PC" sees my tablet in "Settings/Bluetooth and other devices" but lists the tablet as "not connected". Same for tablet which sees "HOME-PC" in "Settings/Bluetooth and other devices" but lists it as "not connected".

What must I do to make them connected? What's the missing link?

    Morning.

Please confirm they are all on "Private" network, not "Public". Not sure of network config but if you have Guest networks in house please check that one hasn't decided to join it due to signal strength.

Could you also please confirm that all have SMB 1.0 enabled.

I would also shut off router and shutdown all devices. To get a fresh start when you shutdown hold the shift key down and click shutdown. This bypasses Windows Fast Startup.
