    Resetting Windows 10 Pro question

Quick question: - I understand resetting the PC erases all the personal files and apps that didn't come with Windows (I have backups), but does it reset the drivers as well?

If not, would I have to do a clean install in order to re-load the drivers again?

    Thanks

Reset deletes everything, but there is also a second option where you can keep your personal files.

Reset removes all 3rd-party drivers and only loads drivers that are included in the recovery image.

You should export your current 3rd-party drivers to an USB stick, and import them back afterwards.
    Code:
     pnputil /export-driver * F:\Drivers
    Code:
     pnputil /add-driver F:\Drivers\*.inf

Hi and thanks for your response.

No, my question was concerning the Dell drivers. I'd like to reload them from scratch if I can, without doing a clean install.

You can uninstall drivers, and click a check box to ensure the driver is completely removed from the system.

For reference on resetting Win 10- the initial text shows the options in a table:

How do you get that setting? If I right mouse click it and uninstall it, it just comes right back on the next reboot.

And thank you for your reply.

I rt clicked the item in question, clicked 'Uninstall'.
Some 3rd party drivers may not include that option.

If stuck, there is this (old, not tried):
    Driver Remover

    else look for something similar.

(Revo Uninstaller etc don't help with drivers).

Ah, ok. That's what I was running into, earlier. Thanks for info.

I've got the updated Dell drivers on a separate drive, so I'm ok in that department. I just wanted to know if I can install them cleanly, that's all.

Ooops, sorry I missed your post. That's good to know.

So I assume it's using generic drivers in that case, yes?

Thanks, I already have them from Dell's support website after entering the Service Tag number.

Unless it's like a newer Intel VMD drive controller, a lot of the generic drivers will work as decent substitutes until you install a replacement driver. What type of drivers are you re-installing? Are they boot-critical devices like a disk controller, or less critical devices like a network or graphics driver?

Boot-critical drivers are hard to replace on a live system.
