    Resetting Windows 10

I have a Dell Precision Workstation 7710 that cane with Windows 7. At some point I upgraded to 10 (dont remember if I went to 8 first). I have upgraded the SSD a couple of times using either Acronis or the Samsung migration.

For a long time I have an issue with windows explorer pauses when renaming and copying files. I tried various things I found doing searches and nothing works permanently. Sometimes the issue goes away on a reboot, restarting explorer and some other things I did, but it comes back quickly. I thought it was DropBox, but still happens even without DB running.

So I am at the point I am thinking of reinstalling windows. Can I use the reset feature and will it reset to a clean install of windows? I think I still have the Dell recovery partition, but that would be Win 7 which I do not want. I am also hoping I do not have to install 7 and upgrade to 10.

I am on 1809 the October update.

You can do a reset no problem and it will give you a new system it depends if you do a total reset loosing all programs and apps or a refresh total reset beeing best. I would hang on a bit and wait for the media creation tool to have the 1809 update again in case it need to get any files as at the moment only 1803 is on the site.

Have you had the update since 1809?

    windows 10 professional version 1607 build 14393.969 64 bit

Once the computer is upgraded from either Windows 7 or Windows 8 to Windows 10 it has a digital license.
So you can reset or clean install.

There are two reset options in the computer's windows advanced troubleshooting menu:
Reset save files or reset remove files:

For reset save files you will need to:
    a) reinstall drivers
    b) reinstall applications
    c) customize preferred Windows settings

For reset remove files this is similar to clean install. If the current build is 1809 is should be a clean install equivalent of the save build.
