    Taskbar Weirdness

    Hi folks...

Has anyone experienced this: You boot up your machine and find that the taskbar does not show your application icons? It contains the magnifying glass, the Windows start icon, and task view button, but I cannot even access these. Whenever I bring the cursor to the taskbar, it just turns into the blue circle. I need to reboot to get the taskbar loaded up again. This has happened now twice.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.

Your Windows Login Profile may becoming corrupted.
First, backup all of your personal User Files to another drive, like a USB HDD.

Disconnect any external USB HDD's and or Flash Drives
Then, run Diagnostics on your drive. Download Crystal Disk Info, and or DiskGenius in my signature. View the SMART Info. If it reports that it is anything less then Good, then it needs to be replaced.

If it is Good then, Try a Clean Boot. If this works, you can keep it this way, or you can add one Startup Item or Service at a time until the behavior returns. Then you will know the culprit.

    eek... okay. Thanks.

There's a lot of weird stuff on the Crystal Disk site. Too many links for anime themes, but I am not sure where the link is for the latest version of this program.

    Portable version... no install necessary.
Extract to a folder and run DiskInfo64.exe

    Download CrystalDiskInfo9_2_3.zip (CrystalDiskInfo)

Scroll down to Standard Edition. Download the Zip File, Extract it to a Folder and run Setup.exe.

There wasn't a standard edition to download, and the download started automatically after the page loaded.

Just click the link I provided.... that's the standard (no install version, which is the one you want.
It should download automatically in a few seconds.

    See post #4 above.

    Thank you.

I got Crystal running as we speak. It's telling me everything's good. Windows' Device Mgr's telling me the same thing.

Okay... Crystal's telling me that all three internal HDs are good. The boot drive (C:) has a 94% rating, the others are at 100%.

You mentioned a "clean boot". I think I've done this before, but it's been some time. I assume YouTube would probably have a short tutorial for how to do this?
