    Boot Device Priority Question

My PC has a Samsung SSD with Windows 10 installed (C: is on Samsung SSD), one DVD RW Drive D:, one WD hard disk E: (for storing data files), one external hard disk Z: (for storing backup files)

In my BIOS>Boot Device Priority (and the Options popup for you to select for each boot device), I see the screenshot below
    screenshot https://i.imgur.com/FA0aG5u.png

I am thinking one day my PC might become faulty and I might need to boot from CD/DVD or boot from USB flash drive.

I think 1st Boot Device should be CDROM and not sure about 2nd and 3rd Boot Device

    Q1. What should I select for 1st, 2nd, 3rd Boot Device?

Q2. What does [Removable Dev.] mean?

Q3. Is it the Samsung SSD should not be the 1st Boot Device because if 1st Boot Device is Samsung SSD then if Windows in Samsung SSD is faulty/corrupted (SSD faulty or windows problems) then I will never be able to boot from CD/DVD or boot from USB flash drive?

(FYI, I come across this info "It appears that the first item is your internal cd/dvd drive and second is your hard drive so there is nothing wrong with the boot order. You want the cd/dvd drive ahead of the hard drive in case you need to reinstall the OS from your dvd." source https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...1-c1c39e5bd2f4 )

    Thanks

The BIOS will first try to boot from device that is selected at 1st Boot Device if its not bootable it will give you error message first example in your case it will check if the CD-ROM have bootable CD/DVD if there is no CD/DVD in CD-ROM it will check next on the boot list 2nd Boot Device and 3rd Boot Device for bootable device if there is none it will give you error message.

The Removable Dev is USB devices.

What is your recommendation for my 1st, 2nd, 3rd Boot Device? (each boot device can select from any of the 4 selections seen in the [Options] popup)

Select the Samsung SSD as first boot device.
Select the Removable device as second
    Disable the third device.

If you ever need to boot from another device you can launch the Boot menu or enter BIOS and change the boot order.

What is "launch the Boot menu", is "launch the Boot menu" same as press DEL during power on>BIOS>BOOT tab (seen in my screenshot), or is it some other step?

Some computers has a bypass function (Boot menu) so you can change the boot drive (only for the current boot).
During POST you press a F? key and a it Launches some boot options. It can be F12 (Gigabyte, Dell), F8 (Asus) or F9 (HP)

As stated, Your Bios is older so, it lists USB devices as "Removable Devices
If you can boot from USB you will not need CD/DVD rom as a bootable device and you can move that to lower in the boot menu. Most people don't use discs to boot a computer anymore.
As stated, if you Enable Launch the Boot Menu it will offer a key to launch the one time boot menu. (ie)
F12 or F9 as discussed. Where you can change the boot order to any of the previous one, (ie)CD/DVD, Removable etc to boot the computer without having to change the order in the Bios.

    My boot device is.
    A. Booting drive ( with the OS setup )
    B. USB Key ( with something like Windows PE or Linux )
    ...............................................
    Non-booting drives and devices
    A. CD/DVD.
    B. Floppy A drive ( because who needs this nowadays ??? )
    C. Any other drive
    D. Network boot
    ....................................

The point being is that usually you could press F12 during start up to get right to the boot-order and boot from wherever you want to boot from. Windows might not boot correctly because maybe ( or at least in my case ).
    A. You Activated Windows and there is some kind of boot priority.
    B. You have some sorta device or drive that is preventing normal boot. Like a Bricked-drive, or an IDE that is no longer seen on current systems.

How to "Enable Launch the Boot Menu it will offer a key to launch the one time boot menu."?

Start the computer and press F12 continuously. It should load the one time change of boot order.
If not, boot into the Bios, under the Advanced Tab, should be a check box to enable F12 Menu
