    Win 10 Pro sudden lockup

My wife's PC is still running Win 10 Pro (I know, I have to update it to Win 11). For the last several months the PC has gone into sudden lockdown and the only way out is holding the PC case power button down until the machine shuts off.

This can happen within a day after reboot or even a few weeks after reboot. It's completely random. In each instance I have checked the Application and System error logs and absolutely nothing has been recorded. Recording stops at what I presume is the lockdown and starts recording when I reboot the PC.

Coretemp shows no high CPU temps either. The max temp it shows is well below the CPU max temp. I figure if it was the power supply the error wouldn't be so random and closer together. Likewise with a motherboard error.

I don't want to make a big issue about this but has anyone else had an issue like this?

Try a Clean Boot If this works, then add one Service or Startup Item at a time, until the computer locks up, then you will know the culprit.

Check through Reliability History for entries. The ---view tech details ---gives the error log.

Hi, there are many threads on freezes- feel free to search tenforums for ideas.

Once again then- as Spunk has said- simplify, eliminate, identify.

The difficulty you face is it happening infrequently. And as you have found, it's unlikely there's any record that will help.

    Presumably you're not overclocking.

As you suggest, the cause could be hardware or software. You should start with elementary hardware checks - disk (3rd party program) and RAM (Tutorial available).

You can stress test your PC (Google as to how).

In principle you can boot your PC from a live boot disk (Google if unfamiliar - e.g. Hiren's, Bob Omb's...) and if freezing still occurs, it's not the content of your system disk.

If you have multiple disks, after checking them, remove all but your system disk. Remember - simplify, eliminate, identify.

I don't know of an easy approach.
