I'm having problems with my Lenovo Legion Y520 eg words I enter come out backwards i.e. "sdrawkcab", and there are other issues about which requests on their forum aren't even answered. *** Hoping you can help.

I'm thinking of buying another manufacturer's laptop with a spec better than what I have now viz

PS This would seem to be a good opportunity to buy a Window 11 laptop. Should I post this in your Windows11 forum or can a Moderator move it there please?
*** Lenovo's forum is a waste of time; they haven't enough Moderators to speed up answers. FWIW in my personal opinion Lenovo has invested its money and resources in its Business laptops; you see Lenovo laptops in many TV series.

From what i can see, you have a very nice system.
I don't understand how the words come out backwards.
I you just type b-a-c-k, do you have to press space bar or enter to turn this backwards?
If that is the case, i say you have some malware installed

I would run some malware/virus software to be sure

Even if you decide to buy a new laptop you should consider doing a clean install of Win 10 and reinstall your apps (which you would be doing anyway with a new PC). Make sure your data is backed up, and you have a record of all your settings.

I enjoy the touch screen feature of my laptop, but that adds $$$$.

I got a new Notebook a month ago, came with Win10 Pro, after setup and updates installed it offered Win11 Pro [free] so installed it. I needed it for learning and dealing with clients in the future who probably will change from Win10. Didn't need the fastest, 14" Dell Vostro 3400 with Intel Core i5, 8GB RAM, 256GB NVME.

You have a very good laptop.
The backwords is a virus or a mirror setting. Nothing that a Factory restore or a clean install wont fix.

    Hello @Taffy078,

You have a pretty decent Laptop.

May I suggest that you try and fix the Laptop before you spend good money.

It does sound like you have a Virus, Malware, Spyware, Trojan, etc.

[1] Run a COMPLETE VIRUS SCAN, preferably from outside the OS [ Safe Mode ].
[2] Have you got a System Restore Point BEFORE this started to happen?
[3] Have you got a System Backup Image BEFORE this started to happen?
    [4] Perform the following . . .

     SFC and RestoreHealth

[1] Press the Win + X keys together > Command Prompt (Admin).
[2] Highlight ALL the commands below.

    IMPORTANT:

    • It is recommended when running SFC that Fast Startup is turned OFF [ Turn it back ON when finished ] => How to Turn On or Off Fast Startup in Windows 10

    • If SFC finds any ERRORS that it can NOT repair, run SFC again upto 3 more times, Restarting after each to allow any pending actions to be implemented.

    • DISM will initially try and Repair ANY Corrupted or Missing files using the Component Store.
If this is NOT possible, DISM will use Windows Update. Therefore, Internet access is required.
If you are NOT connected to the Internet, you will receive a Error: 0x800f081f.

[3] Press the Ctrl + C keys together.
[4] Right-click inside the Administrator: Command Prompt Window > Paste.
    [5] Press Enter.

    Code:

    sfc /scannow
    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
    sfc /scannow

    • When the above has finished processing . . .

[6] Right-click on the title bar of the Administrator: Command Prompt Window > Edit > Select All.
[7] Right-click on the title bar of the Administrator: Command Prompt Window again > Edit > Copy.

    • Paste the results into your post using the [CODE] tags . . .

[8] In your post, click the Hashtag icon #.
[9] Click INSIDE the [CODE]Here[CODE] tags and press the Ctrl + V keys together.

    • In your post it will look like this . . .

    Code:

    <<< Results here >>>

     SFC Error Report

However, if there are STILL SFC ERRORS . . .

[1] Press the Win + X keys together > Command Prompt (Admin).
    [2] Highlight the command below.

    NOTE:

If you have a Relocated Desktop, then change the %UserProfile% part of the Command below to the actual path of the Relocated Desktop folder.

[3] Press the Ctrl + C keys together.
[4] Right-click inside the Administrator: Command Prompt Window > Paste.
    [5] Press Enter.

    Code:

    findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log > "%UserProfile%\Desktop\SFC_Details.log"

    • This will create a SFC_Details.log file on the Desktop.

    EITHER:

Copy & Paste the results into your post using the [CODE] tags . . .

[1] Open the SFC_Details.log file in Notepad.
[2] Press the Ctrl + A keys together.
[3] Press the Ctrl + C keys together.
[4] In your post, click the Hashtag icon #.
[5] Click INSIDE the [CODE]Here[CODE] tags and press the Ctrl + V keys together.

    • In your post it will look like this . . .

    Code:

    <<< Results Here >>>

    OR:

UPLOAD the file => How to Upload and Post Screenshots and Files at Ten Forums.

    I hope this helps.

I realize this is a mostly US located company, but it has a great navigation system, when looking for new computer gear.
These are the laptops that are out there, to give you some ideas...
If you see one or two that interest you, post them here and we can advise or recommend...

As you are in the UK, have you considered buying a used laptop from the likes of Cash Converters? It's where I get all my laptops from. They have an online store, a 14 day no-quibble return policy and some pretty new and decent kit available.

As a random example, how about this for £750...
