    Having trouble with my laptop

My old laptop that I bought about 5 years ago is really acting up on me. Sometimes it will bootup to Windows and about half the time after the bios loads up it freezes up on my and I'm getting stuck at a blank screen with a curser at the top left of the screen.

My laptop system specs are down below as my second system.

    - any help would be great.

Besides the OS drive, have you got any other HDD's, SSD's, or USB's connected?
If so, disconnect them and reboot to see if that makes a difference.

Other than that, as a start, please perform the following . . .

     SFC and RestoreHealth

[1] Press the Win + X keys together and select Command Prompt (Admin).
[2] Highlight EACH command below > Copy > right-click inside the Elevated CMD Prompt > Paste > Enter.

    Code:
    sfc /scannow
    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

When the above has finished processing . . .

[3] Right-click on the title bar of the CMD prompt window [ where it says Administrator: Command Prompt ].
[4] Scroll down to Edit and click Select All.
[5] Right-click on the title bar again.
[6] Scroll down to Edit and click Copy.
[7] Paste the results into your post using the CODE tags [ click the # and Paste the results inside ].

In your post it will look like this . . .

    Code:
    <<< Results >>>

    IMPORTANT:

[1] It is recommended that when running SFC that Fast Startup is turned OFF . . .

    > How to Turn On or Off Fast Startup in Windows 10

[2] If SFC finds errors that it CAN'T repair, run SFC again [ upto 3 more times, restarting after each ].
[3] To run DISM, you MUST be connected to the Internet to allow the repair of any Component Store corruption.

NOTE: The SFC restarts allow any pending actions to be implemented.

     SFC Error Report

However, if there are STILL SFC ERRORS . . .

[1] Press the Win + X keys together and select Command Prompt (Admin).
[2] Highlight the command below > Copy > right-click inside the Elevated CMD Prompt > Paste > Enter.

    Code:
    findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log > "%userprofile%\Desktop\SFC_Details.txt"

This will create a SFC_Details.txt file on the Desktop.

[3] EITHER, Copy & Paste the results into your post using the CODE tags [ click the # and Paste the results inside ].

In your post it will look like this . . .

    Code:
    <<< Results >>>

    OR, upload the SFC_Details.txt file . . .

    I hope this helps.

Thanks, I found some corrupt files and fixed them. And so far so good I booted it up four times now and no blank screen. But I'll keep you updated. Thanks again.

    Hello,

Did you make any system updates or installations recently? Or you may check the hardware to see if it has defects.
