    Explorer continually deleting thumbnails cache

    Hello,
I've got many photos to sort on a HDD in numerous folders. I found a software to recursively generate all preview thumbnails. When done, the cache is almost 2go. But when I restart my computer, more than half of the cache is deleted so I have to regenerate the cache once again. I know that W10 automatically clean the thumbnail cache, but why so quickly ? I tried to disable the auto cache clean schedule, but it doesn't work. W10 is still cleaning the cache all the time. I have plenty of disk space, so the cache size is no problem.
How can I stop W10 from cleaning the cache continually ? Can an alternate file explorer help ?
Thanx for reading and helping !

Thanx. That's a short, yet very good answer. I'll give a try and check if W10 stop doing silly things...

It is the best answer out there and yes these fixes can be found with a quick search. Windows has to clear the thumbnail cache when it gets too large. Part of its housekeeping process to keep the OS running at its best. If it did not run these housekeeping duties, you would never be able to use the OS.

If you would rather not personally work in the registry, @Brink has a tutorial with .bat files that will set those keys for you.

See: Prevent Windows 10 from Deleting Thumbnail Cache and go to step #3

You don't have your system specs filled out so watch which bittage of .bat file you need for your Operating System.

It would be very helpful if you could fill in your System Specs: System Specs - Fill in at Ten Forums

Yep, but the cache doesn't cost ressources other than disk space, right ?

I fact, I did seach solution to this for a while, but did not find the correct answer.

I tried but it seems that Explorer is still destroying part of the cache, only about 20% of it. Do not know why. But it still works better at least.

Does the thumbnails cache has a max size ?

Just FYI, Winaero Tweaker also has this option, I presume it does it the same way.

That's a pretty essential tool for Windows 10 IMHO, it allows you to fix a great many annoyances like this one.
