Hard disk diagnostic software

I would like to download a comprehensive testing software for the health of my disk drives, main concern at the moment is my Hitachi drives ( 2TB each ) which one at least has shown bad reads.

I have Seagate's Seatool which does not seem to recongize the Hitachi drives. Dose anyone know where to find the equivalent for Hitachi drives ?

I tried to find it on the Hitachi site, but nothing turn up it. Searching for my hard drive model to no avail.

Please help.

I am using Windows 10 Pro, fully updated.

Although SeaTools is not Hitachi dependant, it can test any drive and the results provided are very reliable. In addition, there are many software tools that provide useful SMART diagnostics that are suitable enough to provide accurate drive health diagnostics (for example HDDTune).

Regardless of which software you use, if they indicate errors, then you should immediately back-up any data (if you don't already) to mitigate against drive failure. In almost all cases, the prudent approach is to replace the drive if it shows errors.

Thanks. I do have Seatool, but somehow, it does not find the Hitachi drives, whilst working with WD, but Hitachi?

Any ideas?

Also thanks for the link to the various drive test software available, trying them now.

I think WD bought Hitachi hard drives (HGST).

I'd root around here to see what I could find. A "WD" tool may well work on Hitachi drives.

Try the free version of HDDTune - the SMART info should be sufficient to determine the reliability of the disk.

There is a Sea Tools for Windows and a Sea Tools for Dos.

Were each tried?

As Golden commented above, run HD Tune.
HD Tune has 3 different tests:
a) SMART
b) Benchmark
c) Error scan

Run the full error scan.
This can take substantial time so run overnight.

The Sea Tools software checks for drive failure that can be missed using predictive or error/surface tests.
