    Boot from a DVD?

I got a new computer but when I put a bootable DVD it won't boot from it, it just goes back into windows 10? What can I do to make it boot from my DVD?

"It goes back"..............hmmmmmmmm............what does that mean?

Describe your reboot process----what keystrokes you make, what choices you make, what changes you make, etc.

And how, if at all, that differs from how would deliberately boot into Windows.

I assume you have previously booted from this same DVD?

The installed Win10 on the computer is set as the priority boot drive on BIOS.
To boot from another device, you can:
    - Launch the boot menu during POST. It is normally a F_ key. In my Gigabyte is F12. Some Asus is F8. (recommended)
    - Enter BIOS and change the boot priority device.

Depends on the DVD- you might have to put your BIOS into CSM (legacy) mode.

Have you ever booted your machine from a bootable disk of any sort?

Some machines require a particular key to be pressed after booting up, then you select a boot device.

Use Google, let's say you have an ACER PC so you might search for

ACER how do I boot from bootable disk

It varies from one machine to another, to give the precise method for your machine we'd need to know the make and model of the PC.

Assuming you have a DVD drive and a bootable DVD, then the general advice would be to go into the BIOS and change the boot order, or if your BIOS has a 'one-time boot choice menu' feature then use that.

Again, how you get to those options varies, but it's usually by pressing a function key at power up. Commonly it's F2 to enter the BIOS setup and F12 for the boot menu.

We need to know your system specs to be more precise.

Did the OP see something like "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD"?

If it is a modern computer with an UEFI BIOS, and the CD/DVD you are trying to boot from is older and not set up to boot in a UEFI system (usually with the EFI folder in the DVD ISO files) then you must enable CSM (legacy) mode in the BIOS BOOT section settings (as dalchina pointed out) before you try and boot it.
    CSM = Compatibility Support Module

A long time ago I had a CD loader for Linux, just slot it in and follow the screen. Dont know if thats the same thing?

Isn't there a boot up choice in the BIOS? where you can change 1st boot to a dvd or CD?

Yes, but it depends upon the BIOS as to how to set it and access it. Sometimes there's a prompt on the screen as to choose what to boot, again it depends upon the brand of the computer and how they implement the BIOS.
