30 minute old Seagate 2tb hard invisible

In Windows device manager the make and model of the hard drive is visible , and I've uninstalled and installed it there and tried updating the drivers , but Windows Explorer file manager can't see it. Neither can it be seen from a boot into Paragon disk management CD.

A system crash while copying files to it caused me to pull it out of the USB port in order to try and unfreeze Windows . I now think I might leave been better to force shutdown windows, but that's just speculation.

    Thank you for your time!

Can we assume this is an ordinary external hard drive in an enclosure?

Do you think it has been partitioned?

Do you think it has been formatted?

Do you think it has ever been given a drive letter?

Is it unseen in Windows Disk Management?

    I would disconnect device.

Restart computer and plug into different USB port. Right click start, disk management.

See if drive appears. If it does assign a drive letter to it in Disk Management. (Right click in partition)

It's a consumer type all-in-one, not a independent enclosure with a hard drive slipped into it . I am sure it wasn't partitioned. I don't remember what letter it was assigned but I'm sure it was, as I was accessing it in the explorer file manager . Unseen in disk management but seen in device manager.

subsequent to the failure it couldn't be recognized even from a boot disk as unallocated space.

    Thanks

Caledon - I have rebooted the computer and tried a second USB port and even tried it on another PC with the same results.

One curiosity though is that both computers identify drive in device manager as "Seagate Portable SCSI Device" . I would have thought that that designation applied to a different type of storage device

    Thanks

Definitely does not show in disk management, in fact Windows will not even boot up if it is attached at start. Perhaps I should have mentioned that I actually caused this failure in the sense that I attempted to copy something while it was still downloading! This is what froze Windows

If you start diskpart and do a

    List disk

    does it show.

Open a command prompt or powershell (either one admin)

    Type Diskpart

    Type List Disk

    Type Exit

    to close disk part.

Pulling the drive may not have been the best idea. You could try warranty with store. Don't tell them any of the story, just it failed.

There is the issue that some of your data is on drive. Something to consider.

See if you can find a camera or smartphone camera.

Open the BIOS > view disk drives > take pictures and post images into the thread

In case there are any problems posting images please use share links (one drive, drop box, or google drive)

There are log collectors used in another forum room.
Run each V2 and DM and upload results into this thread:

Zbook, I don't know what these terms referred to or how to access them - V2 and DM

Zbook, my reply seems not to have been posted. When I try to boot into bios I can't get past the opening screen unless I remove the external hard drive. Once I attach the external hard drive I cannot navigate around the bios screens until I pull the drive out
