Getting strange @{microsoft.xxxx appearing in start menu

    Hi Everyone,

I'm currently in the process of creating a new image of Windows 10 Enterprise. I have used powershell to remove all the provisioned apps and uninstall all the ones I dont need.

But since creating a new profile to test when I logged in Windows then attempted to install additonal features (but failed) and then re-added lots of the short cuts back. The shortcut icons are blank and do nothing when clicking them but I cannot get rid of them (there is no uninstall option in the start menu when right clicking them). Its also added a whole load of @{microsoft.xxxx icons in the 'other' folder in the start menu which I cannot get rid of.

This is a picture of what is showing in the start menu

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Hi, it's a while since I saw that. It means your universal apps are corrupt. As I recall, the solution is an in-place upgrade repair install.

    But see this

Ok so I tried the copying the start menu database from a new profile (C:\Users\<user C>\AppData\Local\TileDataLayer\Database) but this doesn't work mainly because any new profile I create also gets this same list of icons so its just copying the problem. I've tried reinstalling all the provisioned apps but again the icons are still there after a reboot.

I tried deleting them from c:\program files\windowsapps but still they persist.

You'll need to do an in-place upgrade repair as I mentioned before.
