I ran the reset. Then I looked at the winupdate. And at first it said that there are no updates, so I thought it was a result. But then I ran the check now, and sadly, it was back.
One thing, as the reset script was running I'd swear it ran an error saying something or other wouldn't delete. But it flashed past and then vanished as the programme closed.

Fall Creator edition thinks it hasn't installed-2017_10_26_13_49_151.png Where it says "some updates" I do wonder if maybe there's just one or so things that couldn't be included in the installation. Since most of it seems to be in place.

In no way am I suggesting this is a fix, but until you or another member finds something better, you could hide update.

Its an update for Windows 10 Version 1709, not an update to 1709. KB4041994 is listed in my update history. It was installed on 2017-10-20, which is the day I upgraded to 1709 on this PC.

I'm not sure how that helps. Unless you mean that Fall might have installed and some later update (within a day or so ) didn't.

Yes that's what I mean. Your PC upgraded to the Fall update, version 1709. The update that's failing KB4041994, is an update for 1709. It installs after you upgrade. Why its failing I don't know, just pointing out its not the "Fall Update". Its a patch for the fall update.

Thanks, that's useful. It implies that the Fall is definitely installed, in full. Whatever this patch might be ( anyone have any idea?) it's not the main job, at least. Next problem may be how to get that, and to see if future patches Fall-over

Thanks, I sort of assume my Dell is compatible with this. I'll look later. Looking at the link you put in the post, I'd maybe need to install the original HEVC video s/w before the update will install or something. Which I have never used and never will, I suspect. Not knowing (yet) what it's for.

I reinstalled the video software that Dell had stuck on the computer, to see if that would make this update install. Made no difference. But it was worth a try.
