[QUOTE=dalchina;1169079]Hi, it's in the tutorial (enable/disable); it's there in Winaero's tweaker - get that and click the link-

Ok; downloaded Winaero Tweaker anyway and will pour over it hopefully tonight; as I said earlier, I have disabled auto-update using the suggested services method. Thanks again. Maybe the tweaker will help me out with the slowness of Windows 10 on this machine.

Hi, I've posted that solely in relationship to disabling Win updates.
Slowness of your PC is another issue entirely.

In what way do you notice it being slow?

Please post a screenshot of your task manager when your PC is 'slow' organising any columns of interest high to low.
Repeat when your PC is nominally idle.
To post a screenshot please use the Insert Image icon above your post to the left of the video icon. Thanks.

Please also post a screenshot showing your disk transfer rate e.g. when copying a large file back to the same disk. Some people find their disk is 100% utilised at e.g.10MB/s - which is far too slow. Typically these may be older machines not specified for Win 10.

Ok; back to the laptop; transfer rate moving ( for example ) my documents folder to my desktop varies from 0 to 18M/sec. Why the fluctuation I don't know. Wanted to add images using the Insert Image icon but just get the window saying yes or ne; hit yes and no other options

Hi, there's nothing I can see from the task manager that stands out.

The issue of low disk transfer rates (e.g. 10MB/s = 100% usage) has occurred for some over several generations of Windows, and I've not yet seen any clear solution.

Slowness in general is another matter, with multiple possible causes. Can you give a couple of examples if there are any that clearly aren't caused by disk speed restrictions?

just in general; opening programs is slow; sometimes scrolling up and down long file lists; internet explore got so slow bringing up web pages ( plus nagging script errors ) that I have loaded Firefox which is faster all around so far. My email program of choice has always been Windows Live Mail with Gmail imbedded so to speak but that doesn't work correctly ( ok in windows 7 machine which rockets right along ) so have loaded Thunderbird which is working fine; just needs some tweaking. Just generally slow. As I sad my old ( 9 years ) windows 7/64 desktop pc is way faster that this one with 10.
And yes, this laptop was quicker when 8.1 was running on it. Just don't know what it is.
