October Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool fails to load ...

    Hi,

Today the Cumulative Update for Win 10 installed successfully. However, the Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool failed to install.

I went to the Microsoft download site and downloaded and installed it successfully. I then ran it and it found no problems.

However, it's successful install is not showing as installed under my Update History. The only entry is the failed install earlier this morning.

Is this normal or should it be showing it was successfully installed?

    Thanks and regards,

You can try downloading it again as a separate download.

    Hi swarfega,

I thought that is what I just did. The link is: Download Malicious Software Removal Tool from Official Microsoft Download Center

    Thanks and regards,

    Hi swarfega,

Whoops .... I think we are having a misunderstanding.

I did do a separate download and install as you suggested. I ran it and it showed I was clean as far as the Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool is concerned.

However, my question is: Why isn't this successful Install showing up on my Updates History Page like all my other past successful updates?

    Thanks and regards,

Because it wasn't installed via Windows Update, its individual. I would run your regular av as well if you're suspecting something.

That is what I was looking for .... why it wasn't being displayed as a Successful Update on my Update History Page.

No, I am not having any issues. Just curious about an individual update being displayed or not.

    Thanks and regards,

It would appear to be because you did not actually install an update. What you downloaded was the .exe file for the MSRT, not an install package. Then you ran it directly, so windows update wasn't involved at any point and had nothing to record in its history.

    Hi Bree,

I appreciate your added information. It is always good to see your name in the help forums. Hope all is well in your neck of the woods.

I look forward to the November Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool being released to see if it was just a fluke that the October update failed for me forcing me to download it directly from the Microsoft site.

    Thanks and regards,
