How To Stop The Fall Creators Upgrade

I tried to use the method I used to stop 14393.1715 from upgrading to The CU but with 15063,632 that method stops all updates. Does anyone know of a workable one as 16299 will not work properly on my PC.

Well, if it's Pro you can just defer upgrades. With Home you have no such option. But for both you can hide the update.

As with all previous Features Updates, you cannot hide it until windows update says it's available for your machine. This is what I use on my test/support machine to prevent each of its earlier system images from upgrading to CU. The first thing I do after restoring an image is run the hide updates tool. The tool checks for available updates and offers a list from which you can choose what to hide. I just hide the Features Update and let all the rest install. Today I made a fully up to date version of 1511 that will not upgrade to 1703 no matter how often I check for updates.

I want to stop an Upgrade and not just an update. I was able to do it using Group Policy in 14393 but in 15063 that same method stops all updates including Defender.

Makes no difference, the wushowhide.diagcab tool can hide the upgrades as easily as the normal updates. They all look the same to windows update and to the tool.

In Windows 10 Pro (1511) with 'Defer upgrades' turned on it should normally upgrade automatically to 1607 as that can no longer be deferred. As you can see, the upgrade can be hidden indefinitely.

I am not using 1511. There is no such setting . Google it and you will see that MS made a change with the CU.

Yes, I know. My test machine runs all versions of Windows from 10240 RTM up to 1703 CU (and Windows 7 too).

You are missing the point though. When an upgrade to the next version of Windows comes along it first appears in the list of available updates shown by windows update, which will then download the update and install it. What it actually downloads and installs is a 'loader' that will then download the install files and kick off the upgrade once they have all been downloaded.

The wushowhide.diagcab too can hide this 'update' from ever being seen by windows update, so the upgrade process will never start.

It doesn't matter which image my test machine is running, 1507, 1511, 1607 or 1703. None of them will ever upgrade to the next version, but they will all continue to get their respective cumulative updates.

If you can find software programs that are installed on the system reserved partition you can block windows upgrades.
The trade off is that Windows will still attempt the upgrade and suggest that you fix the problem.

    So you must have Pro.

As mentioned, use Defer Feature Updates in Settings.

There's an additional 180 day delay in group policy too in the AU (360 in the CU)
