Feature update to Windows 10, version 1703 Failing at 32%

so just like the creators update which ive previously not had any success installing. i gave up and went about my daily use of my computer. now the feature update 1703 is being forced upon me and have no way of holding it off..

it to is also failing at 32% just like i had issues with the creators update freezing at 32%. the update is being downloaded and installed via windows update.

    im currently running 1607
    OS build : 14393.1715 (64bit)

i feel this time it will be different as i wont be able to hold it off. so far ive only done the update 2 times. and the second time i tried the disconnect all USB's which never worked. im in a desperate need to get past this so i continue working. anyone got any tips ???

    :EDIT:
    WindowsUpdateClient Event ID 20
Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x8024200D: Feature update to Windows 10, version 1703.

    Hi Dibbz.

Do you know the specific KB number being downloaded. If so you can manual download from catalog. Once you have I would enter BIOS and disable secure boot and Fast Boot (if they are there, names maybe be slightly different.)

Then disconnect from network and at command prompt(admin) enter

    Net stop wuauserv
    Net stop bits

Next double click the file you downloaded. After it installs reboot.

Did you ever run sfc /scannow and did it report anything.

We have this tutorial on resetting Windows Update.

Reset Windows Update in Windows 10

The above process will likely clear your update history, no big deal but didn't want a surprise.

Next thing you sould try is an inplace repair / upgrade. If you download media creation tool today it will create a USB key with 1703 on it. Again have secure boot disable and fast boot disabled in bios. I would be disconnect from Internet and skip getting updates until your update is successful.

Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

I always recommend have your data backed up off machine and to be really prudent create an image with a tool like Macrium Reflect.

it does not give a KB number. it just simply says this

im just wondering what it could be and why its failing.. i dunno if this relates to me not having the creators update or what not. but yeah its hindering productivity.

This error code has been around for previous version too. Here's a typical thread...

In addition to Ken's suggested reset of windows update, sfc/scannow, dism/restorehealth and running the Windows Update troubleshooter were suggested.

Below the line showing download progress please click on history. Does it give more information in the history about the failing update.?

except its not reporting an error code.. the update downloads fine. i got that error code form event viewer. the problem is that when you begin the restart sequence for installing the update it goes through the process it restarts twices before getting to 32% and then the circle freezes and hard drive activity goes quiet.

sfc /scannow reports everything is fine and dism is currently scanning right now..

    :EDIT:

DISM has successfully completed its opperation.

just a quick question tho. would it be better advised to update to the creators update ??? or should this feature update work just fine with 1607 ??

Myself, I think this is the Creators update. I'm unaware of any feature updates being loaded into older Versions, security and fixes yes, features no.

    Others may disagree.
