You get the watermark after a certain time period indeed (right down corner).
I had gotten the watermark myself when I did my first clean install (after upgrading from Windows 8.1 and activating). It wouldn't be so bad, except the fact that the watermark doesn't just limit itself to the desktop, but overlaps onto every...single...application you have open.

Luckily though my 2nd clean install was activated within 5 minutes of getting to the desktop.

This is not true. It does cause problems as I can't customise certain things, and I have seen a watermark (although not today, weirdly!)
The thing is, I am running a VM and have spoken to MS who say that it's a server issue and that it would be sorted out in 48 hours max. That was 72 hours ago!
I thought it might be my Bootcamp install which validated OK, but even if I try to input another genuine W7 key via a command prompt, it still doesn't work!
Sorry about that, I didn't know that some certain users had the watermark. I have one Windows 10 VM which is not activated (not connected to Internet) and as it didn't get the watermark I thought nobody had that.

People at MS Callcenters don't seem to have enough information about Windows 10. On the 29th I was in Turkey, and I had to call Microsoft Call Center. All they told me was to reinstall the old Windows and upgrade again (maybe that was because I had to speak English, but I don't know)
Maybe you can try phone activation (it wasn't working on the 29th) or you can temporarily activate your Windows by injecting another key, changing the KMS server and activating it. But it's illegal and I don't recommend it. (Still, you can give it a shot until activation servers become available, then you can inject the generic key again and try activating.)

EDIT: Can you control keyboard brightness and use the function keys of your Mac on Windows 10?

You have to have an activated version of Win10 on your PC before you can do a clean install and get it to activate.
Not for me! I upgraded from Windows 7 Ultimate to Windows 10 Pro. Worked fine, but my PC was a mess, so I desired a clean install.
    Beforehand:
    - I checked that I was activated in Win10Pro (I was).
    - I even logged in with my live account to be sure to be associated with key (not sure how it works exactly).

Then I created an image of Windows 10 Pro N.
    And... Format -> Install Win10ProN -> Error 0xC004C003.

Not sure if the "N" part is the problem, I have both images, so I can use the other one if needed, but I'd prefer to skip the media crap the non-N version comes with...

    Help....

    [EDIT]
AHA! Turns out the "N" part WAS the problem. Apparently you are not allowed to downgrade.
I installed the regular Windows 10 Pro, and I was activated immediately.
FYI, if anyone else has the some problem... and can find this post.

Keywords: Error 0xC004C003, Windows 10 Pro N, Activated

    Windows 10 Activation

    Greetings,

I am not really sure if this would help anyone but I really want to do my bit to not let anyone else go through the agonizing wait time for Windows 10 activation.

My PC had Genuine Windows 8.1 Pro x64 running, I did reserve a copy using the GWA. Since it did not show any sign of starting the upgrade anytime soon, I used the 64-bit Media Creation Tool and created a USB boot media for Windows 10 Pro x64. Then ran the same media creation tool and went ahead with "Upgrade this PC now", completed it, and then verified that the Windows 10 Pro x64 was Activated.

Post that, I used the USB boot media and did a clean reinstall of Windows 10 and eventually ended up with the activation errors. System Info listed the OS as Windows 10 Home X86, but I assumed it was because the activation was yet to happen. Kept following all the threads on this activation issue but none worked for me.

Today, after 2 days, I realised that the set up files' size in the USB media was around 2GB which is about the same as the ISO size of x86 Windows 10 builds. Windows 10 x64 setup files' size, I found should be over 3GB. So used the 64-bit media creation tool on my laptop(running Windows 10 Insider Previous x64) and recreated the USB media, verified it had around 3GB installation files, and then did a clean install again and, without any hiccups the Windows 10 Pro x64 got activated!

    Hope this helps!

    Tried a zillion times!

one of my father's PC's got this, which I don't understand. So I rolled it back to the original Win7 installation & went to the Microsoft 'Genuine Windows' website, which ran some program & validated that it was a genuine key. So I'm thinking the issue is something with their activation servers. This was an old Dell (~2007?) that originally came with XP and had an upgrade clean install of Windows 7 on it.

    I'm confused on two points.

    1. Sometimes when I try to activate I get no error message and says to try to activate again.

    2. At times I will get Error code: 0xC004F034 with the text that the license could not be found or invalid and it also says to try to activate again.

Doesn't #2 indicate that I got through to the licensing server and for whatever reason Windows 10 can't be activated? Could this be a legitimate message? I am trying to activate under a VM which I upgraded to W10 from a valid W8.1 system with a valid Technet key.

Has anyone tried activating W10 on a VM like me?
