Any way to transfer/copy KB4038788 to my other Win 10 system

I have a 12GB monthly cap. These cumulative updates are killing me. I have KB4038788 in my laptop but my wireless networked desktop pc does not. Through advanced options I have both computers set to share updates. I have metered connection set to on on the desktop pc that has yet to install KB4038788. My laptop is not set to a metered connection. My desktop is turned off most of the time. My laptop is on 12 hours per day. In the future can I just download from MS the update to media and then install it to both computers? I have a late night freezone for downloads to get this done but tired of getting up in the middle of the night to do so. Win 10 home 15063.608 in the laptop. Win 10 pro 15063.540 in the desktop pc. Last month KB....674 failed 3 times on the desktop pc blowing my cap. Finally got it installed. These nearly monthly cumulative updates of almost 1GB are wearing me out. I can afford one of these per month but multiple downloads this size are not an option. Thanks for any help.

I do it frequently. First I use the MCT/Media Creation Tool to create the 2 bootable USB drives [one 32-bit and one 64-bit]. After that I go to Start, Settings, Update and security and scroll down to click on Learn more. Wading through there can get one to the Windows Update Catalog where I download the update files I may need. Most times they are under 1GB [64-bit] or 600GB [32-bit] then I copy them to the appropriate USB drive for use installing on other computers. I do it because some of my clients don't have very fast 'net service.

Holy moly! I would love to see the flash drive that is holding those 600 GB of updates!

Only if they are both 64-bit (or both 32-bit). There's a different version of the update for each type. There's a link to get the standalone package for the update from the update catalog in the KB article for each update, like this one for KB4038788...

How to get this update
This update will be downloaded and installed automatically from Windows Update. To get the standalone package for this update, go to the Microsoft Update Catalog website.

Bear in mind though that the standalone package is quite large because it contains all previous updates, whereas letting windows update run on each machine only downloads the parts that are new for this month. For the 64-bit KB4038788 that's about 588MB as opposed to 935MB for the full cumulative standalone package.

Both PC's are 64 bit. I am familiar with the variants available thru the catalog. Do I need to use the MCT or can I just download future cummulative updates to a flash drive and install it to both PC's? I realize that they are so big because of the all the past updates. Would be nice to have the option to only download the most recent. I had been skipping one or two and then downloading the latest. Win 10 is a PIA for updates. Wish I had 7 pro instead although I like almost everything else in version 1703.

You can download the 64 bit version to a flash drive, and install to any amount of computers you want. If you use Windows Update, the downloads will be smaller, because you will only get what you need. Windows 7 was horrible with updates. If you install a fresh copy you can spend several days installing updates. With 10 you will only have three or four, and be done in a few minutes.

Is there a command prompt to get/copy the KB4038788 package already installed in my laptop and put it in my desktop pc. The whole point is to reduce downloaded bandwidth. I thus far have not been able to get Windows Update to transfer the download to both computers although they are networked, and homegrouped.

Doing as I outlined makes it easier to get just what I want but one could go to the Microsoft Update Catalog page and search for what is wanted [997 pages at 40 items per page].
