    Mysterious win update KB4033637

My Windows 10 Pro (release 1607) automatically installed a patch today (KB4033637). There is no KB article for this patch and if you google it, you wouldn't find anything. What the hell is going on with Microsoft?..this is a kind of a bug or something because my winver shows build 14393.1593 still the same from August 8th.

    Been talked about here too...

I searched too, found no information, but I did find a (non-Microsoft) site where I could download the .cab file for it. Having done so and looked inside it with 7-Zip it appears to be an update for the Compatibility Appraiser.

This is the second time I've posted this week about poor software QA from MS. The update installed on two of my PCs and referenced this link https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4033637

Don't MS software engineers take the elementary step of installing their updates then following through Windows Update to see what is reported?

You can find downloads for KB4033637's .cab file on a few third-party sites (and even a few sites with links to get them direct from Microsoft's servers) but no official Microsoft link is available, even on the Update Catalog.

For your information, I have downloaded the x64 .cab file and extracted a list of the .dll and .exe files from the '_manifest_.cix.xml' it contains...

    Code:

The clues that it was for the compatibility appraiser were in the names of the .dlls and .exe it contains, particularly the appraiser.dll and compattelrunner.exe. Now confirmed by the long overdue KB article:
...The files and resources in this update ensure that feature updates are installed seamlessly to improve the reliability and security of Windows 10.
A 'feature update' is what Microsoft call a new release of Windows, meaning the Creators Update and (soon) the Fall Creators Update.

So it is an update for another update, right?
