Forced updates problem

Ok so I have Windows 10 on my Toshiba Satellite and I am constantly having an issue with my computer not being available when I need it. Usually I don't complain but this recent event was especially bad. I'm on vacation using my phone wifi to pass the time on my laptop. I set it down for 5 minutes and when I come back my computer crashes, oh well I'll restart it I've got time to kill. So I restart it and I get a screen saying do not turn off updating. Awesome now I have to wait for this to update. It's been 40 minutes out of my time just sitting here not able to do anything besides look at my screen and watch my phone and laptop die because I can't shut ether off during the update. I don't know why it would even try to update with as low of a batter as it had, it just shut off before it could finish. I'm sure that's safe. Please for the love of computers give me an option to fix this kind of problem.

Simple: Action Center/Update & security/Windows Update/Update settings/Change active hours. You can also designate a metered connection. FYI, if the Update starts installing, plug in the power cord. Interrupting the update could result in startup problems. Mine is always plugged in w/o battery and I pop it in, in case power is lost.

Yes I know about active hours. This happened within the hours I set, ill try the metered networks but I've heard that doesn't work all the time.

Windows Update > Advanced options > Notify to schedule

If you have Windows 10 Pro:

Group Policy Editor > Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update > Configure Automatic Updates > select the Enabled radio button >  Notify for download and auto install
