    How to stop Microsoft nagging

    Hello,
As you already know from my previous posts about problems upgrading my windows 10 system, until I get it fixed, each time I turn on my pc, I notice lot of net traffic (something is downloading), I pull the line plug out, chk on C: and find brand new folder "$WINDOWS.~BT", unfinished as I stopped the connection, then send it to the recycle bin, untill I'll be ready to update / upgrade.
What has microsoft planted on my pc and where so I can delete it untill I am ready to the upgrade.
    Answers will be appreciated.
    Thanks

Go to Start/Search and type appwiz.cpl and press enter.
In Program and Features, click on View Installed Updates. Uninstall the update KB3035583. Change Windows update to download manually not automatic. Then download GWX Control Panel to remove the Windows 10 nag and keep it from coming back.

    Hello,
1.In the installed updates list there is not such "KB3035583" update.
2.In installed programs list there is a "KB4023057",I wonder why not in the updates list.
3.In the"Task Manager" stopped 'wuauserv' and in Services 'windows update' changed to Disabled for now (if manually, on start-up it starts downloading without any notice).
4.I may try this "GWX Control Panel" after learning about it, do I have to install it as any other program ?
    Thanks for the answer.

I just downloaded and checked GWX Control panel and it does not work anymore. As far as I know know that program was only made for stopping the update to Windows 10 from an earlier Version.

Trying to change update settings resulted in an error message using that program.

Believe it or not: Windows will continue to nag you to make upgrades but if windows fails to make the upgrade it may stop. There are many posts in which people that want to upgrade troubleshoot to be able to upgrade. If you can create the same situation for your computer you can then prevent the upgrade.
For many years people struggled to upgrade and it took a long time to figure out what had blocked the upgrade. It was a metered connection. Nowadays the metered connection no longer totally blocks the upgrade.
One of my computer's just failed the automatic upgrade from 1607 to 1703. To find out all the details you would enter the panther command and view the hidden files as well as the cbs file.

    Hello,
Made a search in C: (system) tree, found there 'panther' folder created a year ago (2016). On that year I did not made any upgrade, do not know if it is part of the operating system.
However found some small folder (also 'panther' named) dated July 2017 (one of the dates I made a try) which contains several files, I believe they are some logs, I do not know what they mean, a cbs file could not find over my whole computer. So I zipped those several files and with your permission I will attach the file here, if you can find there something to figure out the problem.
And by the way, a week or more ago I posted some compressed files to this forum according to their instructions and have not got any answer since.

    Thanks

One way to potentially block upgrades is to reduce the free space in the EFI partition. WIndows upgrades need somewhere around 15 MB freespace. You may be able to fill the partition with languages and fonts.
