Can I Stop automatic updating/restarting?

Hi WSA.

I would go after the IObit.

First open Task Manager and look in the Start up tab to see if there are any i-obit references, disable them.

Then download and run Autoruns, part of Sysinternals.

This will show you the registry entries that are kicking off items. Again only remove IObit.

I agree with Ken; IObit should go.

CHKDSK is usually a sign that the file system needs fixing of some sort. It also could be simply the result of Fast Startup being "on". (You'll want to turn it off, if it is on.)

Usually, if the dirty bit is set on a drive, it will give you an option at boot to "press any key to skip disk checking".

To check if your drive's dirty bit is set while in Windows, in a command prompt, type

Code:

fsutil dirty query C:

If the response is that the volume is dirty, then you should let CHKDSK run at the next boot, to correct the file system. This could take quite a while, depending on the extent of fixes required, the size of the drive, drive health, etc.

You should also check your drive's health:

Failing drives can exhibit slowness just before complete failure.

Hi WSA. When you process the info in the post above from simrick lets us know.

If you haven't already, copy your personal data off the machine. Everyone, and everyone should be in all caps, should have a data backup.

Machines and OS's die and then can be fixed. You can get Windows 10 right from MS at no cost to you and a clean install will fix a lot of issues. You can even try an in place repair / upgrade as a first step.

Lets see if you have a contributing hard disk issue.

No problem WSA - simply right-click the start button and select Command Prompt (Admin).
