and what do i do after i get the key?
You click on the "Change Product Key link on the activation tab and that will take you through the actvation process. It makes life easier if you have a hotmail, live, outlook email account as it links that product key with your account.
The activation tab is the one you took the screen shot of
The windows on your PC was installed through a volume licence intended for use by companies. On a corporate network the licence would be regularly renewed to keep it activated by contacting the company's Key Management Server (KMS). This is not a valid type of licence for home use. It violates the EULA and the windows you were supplied with is not legitimately licenced. Whether this was an oversight on the part of those who sold you the PC, or a deliberate rip-off is a moot point.
To make it legitimate you need a valid retail licence key and should enter it as others have instructed.
In the mean time, when your licence expires the PC won't die. Windows will continue to work when not activated, but with a few restrictions. You will no longer be able to set a desktop wallpaper, and there will be a watermark on the desktop to say Windows is not activated.
@Bree is correct... it was either an ex-corporate PC or there was a pirated activation exploit version put on it.. either way it's illegitimate as it now stands.
But, yes, get hold of the seller to get the reason for the volume licence - we always asked those with similar issues to report these dealers to MS at Eight Forums to prevent others having the same fate.
Armed with this info you can change my original comment on calling company and asking what is going on to phoning company and asking WTF !!!
