20 Failed Install Attempts - Cumulative Update (KB4025342)

Update, (KB4025342), has failed to install on my machine 20 times as per Update History. While checking for updates. it appears to download and partially install, the blue line almost makes it all the way across the screen but then it goes back to checking again and repeats the process 3-4 times.

I've rebooted and tried again but same result - failed update.

After the last try, Windows Update reports that your device is up to date. Yet the Update history shows the 20 failed attempts.

Should I download and install manually or just let it go?

    Thanks.

    Hi Gator5000e

The latest build of 1703 is 15063.483

If you - Windows key + R, type Winver, enter

    what does yours report?

KB4025342 brings you to that level. As you can see there is a lot in the July 11, 2017 update.

It never updated to .483, so I ran the Reset Windows Update in Windows 10 posted on page 8 of the thread concerning this update. The reset allowed the update to download and install properly. It wiped out my update history prior to that but at least this one installed properly. An update check run right after the reboot showed no new updates available. And the version now shows 15063.483.

Thanks to whoever posted that hint and to Brink for clearly writing the steps.

It's the Feature Update that has been failing here for what seems like weeks! After running the above BAT file the update appeared to start downloading but it may have been Defender or other smaller update, because the Feature Update failed yet again.

It would be dire if I have to reset my system as it is doing "stuff" 24/7.

It's not as if there's anything in Feature Update that I want/need, either - as far as I know.

    Hi clemenzina.

What version build are you currently running.

Windows Key + R, type winver, enter.

I think you are running V1603.

First thing I would do is create an Image with a Tool like Macrium Reflect. Backup personal data off machine.

I would then create a USB key as described in this tutorial and I would run the in place upgrade. This will take you to V1703, the Creator's update. Please mind warnings in tutorial.

Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

Given that it is not succeeding on its own I would have the two backups I described above.

    Version 1607 (OS Build 14393.1480)

A hasty but sincere thank-you for the procedural, Ken, I'll probably be back later with a waffle
