Win10 ver 1703 15063.413 - Never auto checks for update or maintenance

    Hi Everyone,

We have recently started moving our workstations to Windows 10. I have a hand full of machines that are working great for the most part. My only issue so far is that some never auto check for windows updates. I have everything set to download and install. I don't have metered connection turned on. I have stopped windows update service and cleared software distribution folder. I can manually click check for updates and they download and install just fine, it just won't auto check and download and install. I noticed too that it never appears to run windows maintenance either. I searched other forum posts but so far I haven't found anything to help. I thank you all for any input.

    Thanks

Hi, try the troubleshooter bottom right.

it never appears to run windows maintenance either
    - just wondered how you know that?
You could make sure scheduled tasks are running:
(You could create a simple one to launch Wordpad for example).

What happens if you do a manual check for updates?

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I ran the troubleshooter on windows updates a handful of times. I checked the maintenance schedule and it looks like it might not be working. I am going to look into and see if I can't figure out whats going on with it.

Manually checking for updates works just fine.

    Thanks

Remove Windows Update scan tasks, that will force Window to recreate them.
    Code:
    schtasks /DELETE /TN "Microsoft\Windows\UpdateOrchestrator\Schedule Scan" /f
    schtasks /DELETE /TN "Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\Scheduled Start" /f

I tried removing the scheduled tasks but still nothing after 2 days. It still has not checked for any updates on its own. Could this have anything to do with that pc brand and model is a dell OptiPlex 790? I know that the 790's are not on the list of dell approved models for windows 10. Thanks.

Have you checked scheduled tasks are in fact running as I suggested earlier?

Ok, just restarted the machine and checked the tasks that were removed. Looks like the UpdateOrchestrator\Schedule Scan" never came back. The WindowsUpdate\Scheduled Start did come back and it appears to be completing successfully.
