win 10 pro build 10240 - update says up to date!!!

Lenovo b590 i3 4gb ram 500gb hdd + AVG free: Windows 10 pro build 10240, upgrade from win 7.1 pro.

No windows updates received since upgrading, however the update setting says upto date, last update Dec 2016 - been unable to get past this bottleneck - tried stopping bits/crypt/wuau, deleting software distribution & catroot2, & restarting those services but doesn't help. Defender updates coming through.

    Any suggestions?

You could try the windows update mini tool http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/deta..._minitool.html & see if that's successful.
There's also MS own troubleshooter- https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/...troubleshooter

I know you did the part highlighted above, but have you done a complete Windows Update Reset. Similar to what the troubleshooter would do.

Thank you for your suggestions - the first just confirmed no updates. The second confirmed that it had fixed issues, but ended with the same result "unable to complete updates".

Everything I've tried appears to fail Grrr

@robmar0se ... afraid you may be out of luck, so to say. This MS article indicates no more cumulative updates for 10240.

End of servicing for Windows 10, version 1507 - Microsoft Community

Suggest that you get the ISO for build 10586 or 15063 and upgrade your system to a newer build. The one you have now is the original, and except for Defender and crucial security updates, you will receive no more. Sorry.

Link for upgrading using Upgrade Assistant or MS Media Creation Tool.
The first option is Upgrade Assistant and second is used if you want to create a thumb drive or DVD.

Your case, the first would probably be easier.

I tried to do this it took over 12 hours to run (on 99% for many hours, but I let it run to conclude). However it then said a couple of components could not be configured, so reverted to where I started from!

Any idea where I could find out what the problems/components are? Or how I could find them?

I guess with no further feedback, there isn't an answer to this issue, so the answer is probably revert to factory settings and do a clean upgrade.

Without wishing to in any way to reject the suggestion that version 10240 is no longer supported, hence no updates, may be true for individual security updates (although makes little sense), the suggestion that this includes upgrades to later builds makes little sense. However MS appear to be somewhat chaotic of late with some of their decisions.

Sorry for your frustration. 10240 is, in fact, out of support except for security patches. I posted the links for getting the upgrade to the current build. If they don't work for you, let us know and I will look into it. I don't really have any other solution for you at this time. If it's not supported anymore, it's not supported. No one can change that. Sorry.

#Thanks, for that, downloaded the win 10 current version upgrade, failed as two components couldn't be configured - tried it again with AVG uninstalled, & Lenovo stuff uninstalled, same result.

Hence my frustration with MS, from what you say, are making some rather unpalatable decisions - as an aside, had my fill today with networking on the latest win 10 release, plus I am having to chuck my Winphone as no longer supported.
