Creator update 1703 downloads and installs, but then ...

I have been trying for days now to update from 1607 (OS 14393.1358) to 1703. I've used Update Assistant and Media Creation Tool; the necessary files are downloaded and installed (which seems to take forever), but immediately upon rebooting, the computer reverts back to 1607.

The Media Creation Tool gives the following error:
    0xC1900101 - 0X2000D
The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during MIGRATE_DATA operation.

I've seen that this problem is not so uncommon, but I haven't yet found a solution. I've checked for out of date drivers, I have no antivirus (other than Windows Defender) to turn off before upgrading etc.

My laptop is an Acer 5740G, which seems NOT be included in the list of computers compatible with Windows 10, but I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 a few years ago, and have had no problems whatsoever.

Any advice welcome (but try not to be too technical!)

    Hi Florio

Please enter your BIOS and shut of Secure Boot and Fast Boot. Retry.

    Thanks Ken,

my BIOS does not seem to have 'secure boot' and 'fast boot'. I could only find 'network boot', 'quiet boot' and 'F12 boot menu'.

    Okay, older machine.

Could you please manually reset your Windows Update Components, second posting in this thread.

No joy, I'm afraid Ken. Perhaps the only potential solution is an ISO...

The media creation tool is similar. If you boot from it rather than running set up.

I think you are saying Clean install when you reference ISO. I know its painful but you get a nice product out the other end.

Be sure to copy out your data. Then boot from your recently created Media Tool.

Wish I had a better answer. Sorry. Maybe another member has an idea.
