    Advance downloads for reserved upgrades

The word is that files needed for the 10 upgrade will actually begin downloading before the 29th on systems where 10 has been reserved. Does anyone know if that has started yet and how we may be able to tell? Will these updates appear as KBxxxxxx files like other updates, or will they have some other designation or perhaps just be hidden from the update UI?

    Victek,

I think Microsoft changed that. I think Microsoft will download a little at a time starting on the 29th but who knows what Microsoft is really going to do. Some say sites reports it could take weeks to get windows 10 to everyone that reserved it, others have said just a few days. I guess time well tell :)

I suspect that somewhere in the T&Cs we agreed to seeding a torrent.

I've not seen any increase in the size of my C: drive, so I presume nothing has been downloaded in the background yet. All I've noticed was that System32\CompatTelRunner.exe started making outbound connections to Microsoft about a week ago and this morning my monitor disconnected/reconnected during Automatic Maintenance where the 'Get Windows 10' thing carried out another compatibility check.

I hope there's a way to override that and allow users to manually start the upgrade process. Surely come Wednesday, a lot of people like myself will want to make sure everything's backed up on all PC's right before the upgrade, then just hit the GoGo button when ready.

I believe it should be phased in. iirc Insiders are the ones getting 10 on the 29th, with everyone else getting it in stages. And I think that, barring any severe bugs, we are already running the release version and just have to wait for Microsoft to confirm it and release instructions for stopping insider previews and ensuring the OS is properly activated.
