All update attempts have failed since Version 1607 was installed

On one of my machines Windows has failed to install any updates since Version 1607 was installed back in March. The messages I am getting from Windows are confused and contradictory. Sometimes it says there are updates to install. Sometimes it says that there aren't. Sometimes it lists all the previous updates and attempts (all failed since 31 March 2017), and sometimes it says that no updates have been installed. How can I get the updates working again?

Did you clean install 1607 or was it an upgrade ?

You could just clean install the Creator`s Update, unless you don`t want that version.

    Download Windows 10

Download the Iso file and create a usb or dvd installer.

Wouldn't a clean install mean having to reinstall all my applications? That would take me about 12 hours of nursing install DVDs. I'd much rather drill a hole in my head.

    12 hours ?

Why are you installing so much on W10 ?

There is no reason to install that much on W10, because of W10`s upgrade process.

I have music production software. It takes a ridiculous amount of time to install and I don't want to have to go through all that pain again.

In the left lower corner search type: winver
Post your windows version and build.

In administrative command prompt run: sfc /scannow and dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
    Report the results for each.

Create a bootable windows 10 iso: Download Windows 10

Place your computer in clean boot:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...oot-in-windows

    Fix the windows update components:

Copy this to notepad and save as .txt file. After it is saved change .txt to .bat
Then paste the .bat into administrative command prompt.

    Net stop bits
    Net stop wuauserv
    Net stop appidsvc
    Net stop cryptsvc
    Del %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Microsoft\Network\Downloader\qmgr*.dat /Q
    Del "%HOMEDRIVE%\Users\All Users\Microsoft\Network\Downloader\qmgr*.dat" /Q
    Del %WINDIR%\SoftwareDistribution\*.* /s /Q
    Net start bits
    Net start wuauserv
    Net start appidsvc
    Net start cryptsvc

If scannow has no integrity violations and restorehealth completes successfully:
Attempt windows updates in clean boot.
Report any error codes and failure to update KB#
