A system image (a backup) is a single file that a backup program creates, and that single file can be used to restore your PC back to how it was when the backup was made.

I make two daily, one AM and one PM.

Windows backup utility sometimes gets a bad press but I have to say that it works and works well. Its simple and limited in features but ultimately it does what it says on the tin, it creates a backup file that you can restore from.

And just to add, the image file is normally made to a separate USB drive or a separate partition on your laptop drive. The downside to using the laptop drive is that if the drive fails, the backup is lost... a risk I take as that is how I use it although I do copy important backups to a separate drive as well occasionally.

Hi Mooly. It your pain in the butt back again. Happy report everything is running smoothly now. Had a little panic yesterday as it took from 0715 to 1350 to load and install all the security settings from Microsoft. It's never took that long before. But it's done now.
