    Update error: (KB3172729) - Error 0x80248007 - continues

    Hi,

With the latest ransomware troubles it would be great to get this fixed. It has been a problem since last August.

Have tried everything I can think of including manual updates - no luck.

Any ideas would be most appreciated.

    Thanks!

Hi innovation2. Welcome to the TenForums @innovation2

First I would run the Windows Update trouble shooter.

Windows key + S, search bar appears, type troubleshooting into search bar, troubleshooting appears at top. Click it, window opens, lower right side "Fix problems with Windows Update", click. Window opens, click on “advance”, click on Run as administrator, click “Next”. Should run clean. If not run again.

    Then try update.

If this doesn't work, to a command prompt(admin)

    sfc /scannow

There is another Trouble shooter at

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...troubleshooter

which another member said fixed their issue.

After that I would recommend is an in place repair / upgrade. This will take you to the Creator Update and I'm not sure you that is where you want to be depending on the age of your gear. The Creator Update is being rolled out by MS and with each wave they learn / fix and promote. That is not to say you can't do it, just to say there is some risk.

Lets see how the trouble shooters and file checker work.

    Hey Ken,

Thanks for the ideas. I had already run 1 updater . . . followed your instructions with no luck.

The system scan came back with no integrity violations. Got a message from the second updater (had that before) about a database corruption issue - applied the fix. Here are the results:

Windows could not automatically detect this network's proxy settings - Detected

Some security setting are missing or have been changed - Fixed

Service registration is missing or corrupt - Fixed

Potential Windows Update Database error detected - Fixed

Windows Update components must be repaired - Fixed

Check for pending updates - Fixed

Nope: Security Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64-based Systems (KB3172729) - Error 0x80248007

The machine is a Dell Inspiron 5000 series with Core I7 and 16GB of memory - about 3 years old.

    It is backed up.

    Next steps?

    Thanks again

In this post zbook suggested a set of commands and the use of DISM.

    Creators Update Failure

If that doesn't work I would do an in place repair / upgrade.

Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

    8 hours ???

That is long although if you are downloading updates with a slower connection anything is possible.

    Yeah - and we have a 25mbps connection too . . .

It has completely updated and we have now been notified about the impending "Creator" transformation.

What would lift be without constant updating???

    Many thanks again Ken
