    Windows 10 Activation

I installed the new Windows 10 Assistive Technology version and have been unable to get activated. The message says that activation cannot be made at this time. I had Windows 7 and I downloaded the new Windows 10 Assistive Technology from the Microsoft website. It was not a clean install but an update. When I bought my desktop from Dell Windows 7 was already installed and I did not receive a product key. What should I do?

Was it a clean install? Was it on a previously-activated Win10? If Yes on the first and No on the second you may need to enter a Win7 w/SP1 Product Key or maybe a Win8.1 Product Key. I've not had to use it yet but I seem to recall there is a Tutorial on this forum about troubleshooting activation problems.

Go to Settings > Update & security > Activation > and look for an "activation troubleshooter" option.

Open a Command Prompt (Admin) or Powershell (Admin) and run:

    slmgr /ato

That will make it try to activate online and tell you why it won't.

I had that in my post and then edited it out. I was thinking that only works if your VL activated? Guess I'm wrong? I need to read up on it I guess?
