Windows 10 education is not mentioned in the table on that page: https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/soft...load/windows10
Click the button that says Download Tool Now. Run the MediaCreationTool.exe that it downloads. You will get an ISO file with 4 different versions of Windows 10 included: Windows 10 Home, Windows 10 Pro, Windows 10 Home Single Language Edition, and Windows 10 Education:

    Code:
    D:\sources>dism /get-wiminfo /wimfile:install.esd

I was told in the Microsoft forums that I will need to purchase a key to get creator's update on Windows 10 Education. This is just ridiculous now.
What does the Activation Screen show under Settings - Updates and Security?
Open a Command Prompt (Admin) or Powershell (Admin) and run:
    slmgr /dlv

What are the results of that command?

Interesting. How did you originally get your Education key? I saw in first post you upgraded to W10 Home and then to Education but I didn't understand how?

Hello, windows 10 home is the original OS that came with the laptop. Win 10 education upgrade is done using a key from Microsoft Imagine. Microsoft Imagine account is provided in our university where we can download Microsoft softwares for free. Here is microsoft imagine: Lamar University - Computer Science - Microsoft Imagine Premium | Academic Software Discounts
I have downloaded the education key before April, i.e before the release of creator's update. I am not allowed to get anymore keys for this particular updated product in Microsoft Imagine due to their policy.

You did not say what to do with the ISO file. I don't want to reinstall OS to be clear. Does the ISO contain creator's update?

This was the response in the microsoft forums here :
As for your issue about updating to the Creators Update, it is available for Windows 10 Pro and Home edition. You may need to purchase a product key for it, especially if your Windows 10 for Education is connected to your University's domain.

Mount the ISO, run setup.exe from the mounted ISO file. It should upgrade you to the Creator's Update without asking for a product key or version.

I did that. I faced the same error mentioned in the first post, when it tried to reboot. After restarting from that error screen, now back to normal without applying any updates.

After returning to desktop, I see some more clue what must be going wrong:

    winload.efi error during creator's update, error 0xc0000225-err.jpg

So it is failing when it tries to safe boot?

Could this be because I have dual booted with Ubuntu and using grub as my bootloader?

Yes the secure boot is disabled. My laptop model is Alienware 17 R3, if it gives any clue.

Finally, I have applied the update successfully by doing the following:

    1) Changed the #1 boot priority from Ubuntu to Windows 10. So that stopped grub bootloader from showing up.

    2) Ran disk cleanup, clicked on clean up system files and clicked on Ok.

    3) Ran CCleaner and cleaned up with the default settings.

    4) Ran this in cmd as admin: DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

    5) Then used the Windows10 upgrade assistant.(downloaded from Download Windows 10)

    6) Then when it restarted, I quickly entered bios. Long pressed power button to power off. To my surprise, it proceeded with updating without showing any error. Whenever it tried to restart during the update, I did this little BIOS trick which I saw somewhere on the internet.

Except the first step, other ones are the solutions I found on the internet. And I applied all of them at once. So I can't tell which one really solved the issue

Glad you got it sorted out! So much for all that nonsense about having to purchase a new product key to update Education version, eh?
