    The problem is back.

There were some problems installing updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help: (0x80240442)

Got this just a few minutes ago in Windows Update. Anyone else?
"0x80240442 - WU_E_PT_OBJECT_FAULTED. The object is in a faulted state due to a previous error." Seems like your Windows Update is in a bad state. See if anything here helps you: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...953000c?auth=1

Not yet on 1703. The error denoted above pasted quite quickly. It must have been an anomaly. The next time I tried to Update, it was fine. Thx for your reply.

No, I'm afraid it's not fine. I'm still having a problem. I receive the following message when I try to use WU.

I tried the following posted by an Insider on the Microsoft Community Forum:

    • Reboot your computer a few times.
    • Try again periodicallyYou may try these steps to reset the Windows update components manually and check.
      a. Press Windows key + X on the desktop screen of the computer.
      b. Select Command Prompt (Admin)
      c. On the open Command Prompt window copy and paste the commands (all at once).
      net stop wuauserv
      net stop cryptSvc
      net stop bits
      net stop msiserver
      ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
      ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 catroot2.old
      net start wuauserv
      net start cryptSvc
      net start bits
      net start msiserver
      pause

      c. Exit the command prompt and check.

      But the problem persists.

You may recall that I have 2 laptops running Windows 10, but this problem is exclusive to only 1 laptop.

One more clue. When we all had the problem with WU caused by Microsoft last week, I tried to fix the problem by Resetting Windows Update on this laptop which now experiences the WU problem. My other laptop was not reset, and is ok.

      Any help is appreciated
