    This kind of workaround,
to get virus and spyware definitions updated,
    seems ridiculous to me.
    Does anyone agree?
I agree but at least there's a work around. :)

    This isn't even a workaround.
    At least not for me...

I downloaded the nis_full.exe for my version of Windows Defender and ran it,
    got zero, zip, zilch, nada.
    This .exe file does nothing,
much like what the mpam-fe.exe did,
    nothing.

Mine is still updating using Defender which will hopefully keep working until they fix Windows Update.

Have you seen this thread? That registry edit mentioned there might help you. Good luck. :)

    Thanks,
    but maybe it's just me...
I don't feel that messing with the registry, is any way of getting Windows Defender definitions updated.

I agree and would only try it if I was desperate and I had a fresh Macrium back-up to have as insurance. :)

I fixed "my" issue by executing the following command in cmd as admin:

    "%programfiles%\windows defender\mpcmdrun.exe" -signatureupdate -http

This is where I found the command and it's posting.
