    Still received the error on the 4/3/2017 - 1.239.713.0 update.

    I also have these errors.
    I manually check for updates every day or so.
    Error started for me on the 31st of March.
    Was able to update by opening Win Defender,
    but now that doesn't work as well.

    I downloaded mpam-fe.exe and ran it,
    got nothing.

    I ran the manual update using Power Shell,
    here are my results.

    What is the Windows Update applet,
    I don't have it and never heard of it before?

    I also got that error. Now I update from windows defender and then try windows update. Now I don't get error as defender is updated.

    Thank you for your patience regarding Windows Defender update error 0x80070643. We are aware of the issue and trying to roll out a mitigation as soon as possible. Meanwhile to get your machine back to a protected state, you can manually download and apply the latest Definition Update by following the instructions outline here: https://www.microsoft.com/security/p...tions/adl.aspx.”

    This kind of workaround,
    to get virus and spyware definitions updated,
    seems ridiculous to me.
