KB4015438 and KB4013429 fail to install

I have not been able to install these updates. Searches suggest going to the Microsoft updates acalogue to download stand alone updates but if you can see my attachment all I get at that website is a plain blue screen.

Hi woldsweather. Kb4015438 replaces KB4013429. Just get 4015438

Have you tried the update trouble shooter and then checking for updates?

Which browser are you using for the above screen shot? If edge try ie11. If MS won't work go with Chrome.

Seems like there is yet a newer one which you may already have.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4016635

This replaces the other two. Fast and Furious hasn't got anything on Microsoft.

There are actually two catalog sites, the old one that uses ActiveX and requires IE (and will need to install an Update Catalog add-on) and a new one that doesn't use ActiveX and works in all browsers with no add-on. That link is to the old site. This one is the new site, distinguished by the www. at the beginning of the address.

You saw my post, there is yet another cumulative update out that supersedes these two. Just check if it has been installed. Could be reason these are failing.

    (Thanks Bree for the clarification.)

KB4015438 was rushed out through windows update to fix a bug introduced in KB4013429. The MPEG-2 codec crashed any video app that tried to use it. KB4015438 takes you to build .969.

KB4016635 add two more fixes, the first of which is important to some business users. The second is to fix Store app updates failing. It is build .970. As it seems to only affect a small (but important) number of MS's customers, it's optional and only available from the catalog.

If you are on .969 (check with Winver) and aren't affected by these issues you don't need .970 and it won't be forced on you by windows update.
