Is it possible to get the creator update before it automatically downloads it?
Yes. Download a fresh copy of the Media Creation tool and use it to 'make media for another PC'. It can make the .iso or bootable USB media for the Creators Update. To upgrade, mount the .iso (or insert the USB) and run Setup from within Windows. If using the USB, remember to remove it when the time comes for the first reboot.

Yes. This is basically what this will do. When you create a USB key through media creator it will be CU. You plug it in and run setup.

Note warnings. Depending on how new your machine is you may have to adjust Secure Boot setting.

I hadn't seen this and updated to the creator update without the media creation tool. Now trying to get windows back to 'normal'! AT the moment a tab in IE11 opens edge what!

..later note- got of that asap!
