How I work out which update to uninstall? Not any are showing after one suggestion resulted in them all disappearing. (or at they in a folder I had to rename?)

In a nutshell, Microsoft released previous updates that are half broken and thus any updates that superseded the broken ones wont install.

The solution is to remove the half broken ones that are already installed and let windows update then install the ones that supersede those half broken (because windows update automatically skips anything that was superseded).

Look at the list of already installed updates and filter by Windows updates only (like on screenshot I attach)

    Attachment 129257

As far as I know from Anniversary Build 1607 14393.0 Clean Install what I have on screenshot is what Windows update Installed, On my wifes machine I had to remove KB401429, but in your case theres a previous update blocking that, so...
Look at your list and remove some previous updates that have been superseded.

You have to love Microsoft, they always find new ways to screw up and annoy the hell out of users.

No idea what you did, the update that breaks later updates is the only I mentioned, after removing it on my missus all other failing updates went OK.

If we proceed down this path we can assume KB 3213986 was the January 10, 2017 cumulative update and it worked. It brought us to build 14393.693. There were others released in January but not pushed. Then in February we didn't get one.

So if you trying to get back to that point you would ensure

    KB3216755 January 26th
    KB4010672 January 30th
    KB4013429 March 14th
    KB4015438 March 20th
    KB4016635 March 22th

are not installed. My information comes from this article.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...update-history

I forgot what build you are currently at.

    woldsweather,

...have tried uninstalling KB40144329 as below using wusa /uninstall /KB:40144329 and get a message that its not installed.
    Aren't you looking for KB4014329?

    Then, use wusa /uninstall /KB:4014329

    (KB:40144329 will not work)

If still no luck, let's do a Registry search for KB4014329.

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool:
    Farbar Recovery Scan Tool Download
Select the appropriate download: 32 bit or 64 bit
Save it to the Desktop. <<<--Please!

Right-click on the FRST file and select: Run as administrator

Enter KB4014329 into the blank Search box, and click the Search Registry button.

When the scan is completed a notepad window opens with the results.

Please provide the contents of Search.txt in your reply.
If for some reason Notepad doesn't open, the file is also saved on the Desktop.

    @Caledon Ken,
This is the current info: Winver is 1607 OS Build 14393.693

Looks like it is getting rather confusing with this issue:

KB4015438 and KB4013429 fail to install

    woldsweather,

    A different option:

If you are already using a Windows 10 operating system version such as the Anniversary Update and don't want to lose your personal files and installed apps, try upgrading to Windows 10 Creators Update using Windows 10 Update Assistant:

Update to Latest Version of Windows 10 using Update Assistant

No guarantees, but, might be worth a shot.
