    Cumulative updates

    Hi All,
I am having problems with the latest updates downloading and installing on my Desktop computer.. A search of the internet for Error code: (0x80073712) seems this is not a new occurrence, but it is new to me.
The windows update detects there is this: Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64-based Systems (KB4013429) to download and proceeds to download but only gets to 9-10% and then gives me the error code above and to try again.
I downloaded the update manually and it also failed to install.

I am wondering if anybody else here is having the same problem over the past week?
Looking in my update history this (KB4013429) update apparently has tried and failed since March 14th.
What could be the problem with the desktop on this particular update...Any help would be greatly appreciated.

PS. I just checked the laptop and the same update installed successful on March 15th.

    Thanks
    Scramjet

    Hi Scramjet.

Give the Windows Update Trouble Shooter a shot, or two, and try again.

Windows key + S, search bar appears, type troubleshooting into search bar, troubleshooting appears at top. Click it, window opens, lower right side "Fix problems with Windows Update", click. Window opens, click on “advance”, click on Run as administrator, click “Next”. Should run clean. If not run again.

Thank you all for replying. I ran the troubleshooter and tried the windows update again and currently i am stuck at 9%. I am going to wait it out until it either finishes or gives me the error again. Then I will run the troubleshooter 3-4 times before attempting to check for updates. If that fails I will try the manual install.
I will post back here again

If you do the manual install please issue these two commands before executing download. After update, reboot.

    Net stop wuauserv
    Net stop bits

The KB4013418 was already installed, so didn't have to do that. I done the troubleshooter 4 times and it fixed the same errors each time...that's weird. Then I done the manual download of KB4013429 and that failed again.
So my next step is to use the troubleshooter again several times and then follow your last instructions Caledon Ken. I will delete the downloaded versions and issue commands and then download and attempt to install.

Greatly appreciate all the advice here.

I had to use the DISM approach after trying everything suggested.

Managed to track down the latest 14393.953 update in cab format from here. Created a new folder on drive c: named 'update' (without the ' ') and saved the cab file there. Renamed the cab file to KB4013429-x64.cab. Opened an elevated command prompt and used the DISM method which was outlined on another thread here

    The command I used was - DISM.exe /Online /Add-Package /PackagePath:c:\update\KB4013429-x64.cab
It took a while to extract and install the cab contents but after rebooting I was up to speed with the latest W10. Whether I will need to do the same when CU is released I have no idea but it's easier than reinstalling everything from scratch.

Sorry had company drop in when I was about to try this and they stayed late. I just followed your instructions and same thing. The following update.... Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64-based Systems (KB4013429) was not installed.
I will try the DISM approach next.
I greatly appreciate all the help I am getting here.

    Well it's a no-go again
I tried the .cab file twice and get same error while trying to install from Administrator Command Prompt.
    "An error occurred-Package_for_rollup_fix error: 0x80073712"
    Error 14098
The Component Store has been corrupted

Now how the heck do I fix that?

I would start my running sfc /scannow and see what it reports. Then if that can't fix I believe there is a tutorial on DISM you could reference.

May have to run sfc more than once to correct.

Strange, in a previous post you mentioned you keep getting same error when trouble shooter runs. Wonder if you are finally getting to root cause.

Your data is safely backup, right?
