I have received notification about it also. I am going to wait until I know more about it before running it. This is a strange one! This is somewhat confusing. Do you really need it if your printer, in my case an HP Envy 5660, has its own driver?

Microsoft Windows Portable Devices (WPD) enables a computer to communicate with attached media and storage devices. This system supersedes both Windows Media Device Manager (WMDM) and Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) by providing a flexible, robust way for a computer to communicate with music players, storage devices, mobile phones, and many other types of connected devices.

I`m more than suspicious about this "update"! Just look at the date: It is the 22nd of February 2016
(not 2017 !!). I`ll not install it until I know further about it.

I got it too... It installed in less than a second, while I was attempting to search it actually. Not sure why I would need this when I only have one flash drive I use and not often. Don't connect a phone or other device to my pc.

Hopefully it's an update to prevent other software (I.E. Nvidia) from accessing these devices.

This is a Windows Portable Devices (WPD) driver update for your PC for say a Windows 10 Mobile phone device.

I just had a handful of Office 2013 updates + this one.

Now my Sony Xperia.Z5 phone wont work with the PC whatsoever. It won't even charge (it does in the boot process before WIn10 has loaded. Device Manager say that no driver is available. If I restore a 3 weeks old backp image everything is fine. I cannot find a way to remove this particular update alone and - as we know - Win10 does not have an option to select which updates to install

I have another PC and this strange thing is not installed by Windows Update here. The one with the problem has Nvidia graphics. The one without problems has Intel graphics.

I just instal the update and discover that an very old bug (from windows 8 until 10 togetter with MSI motherboards) have gone now.
My problem was that when I did a clean start of my pc some usb ports don't work and some usb conected hardware like a scanner and and usb keyboard don't start properly, it only works good after a restart. Now I just start and all the hardware works now. I don't no if this is because of this WPD driver I must investicate this.
