I installed the update, which failed and removed the connection to my Nexus 7.
I followed the instructions from Brink, bit got this response
    Hello Roger, :)

It looks like you selected "MTP Device" instead of "MTP USB Device" at step 5.

The phone does not appear anywhere in Device Manager. I was hoping that

    might work

In your cases "Unknown device" would be your phone. :)

If I select "use USB for charging" or "USB for File transfers" I get

If I select "USB for Photo transfer" it appears as
    W10 update / Microsoft - WPD - 2/22/2016 12:00:00 AM - 5.2.5326.4762-image.png
and updating the driver software gives

but this doesn't give me much access to files on the tablet

It looks like the driver for your phone is already properly installed.

Check using the tutorial below to see if it may help to ID what the "Unknown device" is.

I got as far as step 4, but was presented with
    W10 update / Microsoft - WPD - 2/22/2016 12:00:00 AM - 5.2.5326.4762-image.png
I tried Universal Serial Bus Controllers, then MTP USB Device, which appears to have worked.
    Thanks for the prompting.
